Well it seems as if the 90s flesh baring mesh styles are back in full force for Spring 22'. And with the flex of the weather right now we are a little reluctant to put away our Winter pieces and go full in for Spring! So mesh fabric pieces have definitely been a style Ive been able to get into this season. Stretch mesh is super comfortable, layerable and there are so many beautiful prints available for styling. You can get away with wearing lightweight mesh tops and mesh dresses all year round actually.
Since its still sort or chilly in NC right now, Ive been reaching for my printed mesh turtlenecks. They keep me covered but not too warm because usually by the end of the day the temps have gone up quite a bit. Layering them with blazers and slacks give them a more put together look that easily makes it work attire. If you want to go more casual, styling it under a slip dress with a pair of tall boots or sandals is perfect.
Now, a turtleneck automatically elevates the look and makes it more chic so if you prefer to be even more chill, I say choose a scoop neck mesh t-shirt style. They tend to be a little more on the casual side. You can still pair them with a pair of trousers or jeans and your favorite jacket or sweater. The options are endless.
If you are looking for a figure fitting dress there are definitely quite a few mesh options available. Make sure you have your slip and underbody wear on point with these mesh pieces. I suggest for more modest styling go for a slip under your dress or a tank with your tops. If you like to bare more skin I would go with a bandeau and some slick bodywear coverage underneath such as skims or spanx. It will give you the smoothest finish with these light weight form fitring dresses. However, you could also pair the dress with a pair of pants or leggings and skip the slip and spanx all together.
When working and creating your own mesh pieces you want to make sure there is some stretch to the fabric. Stretch mesh is going to work best for form fitting pieces. I used a standard needle on my stretch mesh but you can also opt for the ball point needle for stretch and knit projects. All my seams are serged but if you don't have a serger, french seams work perfect for these types of projects. I usually leave the seams raw because this fabric does not usually fray. I purchased mynfabrics from several different vendors. (info on sources avaible below photos) Its usually not hard to find but since they have become so popular lately. More and more prints have been available.
If you are looking for ready to wear pieces, I feel like AFRM brand has mesh on lock this season with so many print options and sizing for a full figured beauties. You can't go wrong! You can also find plenty options on sites like Asos and Ssense. Top Shop also carries high end brands such as Ganni and Kim Shui who offer quite a few unique prints to get into. What ever your price point or how you want to make it work, Mesh is a great way to kick start the season with pieces you can carry over through differnt seasons!
Until Next Time
