Hello Gems! Lets talk lace!! My favorite times of the year to wear lace is Fall through Spring when the weather is just right for layering beautiful lace garments and barely there pieces. Summer, I reserve for airy cottons and linens and maybe the occassion woven non-stretch lace. Im just sayin... No matter how you wear it, it's something sensual and elegant about lace. The fabric itself is a whole mood and Im here for it!
Lace is one of my favorite fabrics to sew with, whether its stretch or non-stretch, I can't resist a go at the peek-a-boo fabric! So a couple months ago I did a collaboration with Chalk and Notch and I created my version of their Marcel Pattern using LA Finch fabric and lace from my stash. I love the way it turned out and even though the temperature at the time wouldn't have been suited for layering, I knew even then that once cooler weather rolled in I would want to add another layer of lace...in the form of a bodysuit that is. 😊
Last Fall I created knit bodysuits as part of my Fall wardrobe essentials and they were a perfect addition to my Fall wardrobe. They stayed in rotation throughout the duration of the Fall/Winter months. This year I decided to spice it up a bit with lace bodysuits, plus they seem to transition so well into my wardrobe, I just the love the looks I could create. I used Mood Fabrics Davallia Bodysuit pattern. This pattern is so easy to whip up and I Iove the back detail. I have made this one several times already and I tend to switch up the collar and sleeve a little each time just to make them a little different.
If you haven't sewn with lace yet start with something simple like a top or this bodysuit. If you are using stretch fabric don't forget to stabalize the shoulder seams with twill or ribbon so that your shoulders don't stretch and give. This bodysuit doesn't require zippers or any difficult closure either. I actually used a tie closure at the back of the neck here which is a great option.
Until Next time!
