Hello Gems! Let's talk turtleneck sweater dresses. Maybe one of the most simpliest pieces to add to your wardrobe. Whether you are purchasing a ready to wear piece or making it yourself. Its simple, its chic, easy to wear and need I say... versatile?! 😁👍🏽
I mean I think it goes with out saying, you can create many looks with one sweater turtleneck dress. A blazer and a dressy boot can take this dress to work and after hour. Heels and a minky shawl or necklace will take you somewhere fancier. 😉 As for everyday, well this is where you will find me. In chunky boots/brogues with tights and a motocycle jacket or even sneakers and a denim or puff jacket.
There is a style and fit for just about anyone at any age and for any occasion. Honestly one of the best creations since jeans...just sayin. 😊❤ We start to see these knit dresses peak around Fall time and they just get thicker and more plush as we enter the Winter season. They are definitely, one of my go to pieces for the Winter. They hug your body like a cozy plush blanket.
Not to mention, for my beginning sewers, this is such an easy piece to construct you almost don't need a pattern. Some use old sweaters and turtlenecks to DIY a sweater dress. However, some skill sewing knits and stretchy fabric is suggested. Knits can be forgiving but they can also be tricky when sewing depending on the stretch and the weave but with the right needle and a few key points, you can whip these up in an hour or less.
For this dress I used Simplicity Pattern 9018. Ive used this pattern several times now, it is pretty straight forward and easy to follow. I lengthened the turtleneck as I always do, I like my neck with a little more length to it. I added slits on both sides for mobility. I didnt want to be restricted in this piece. It could have me walking like a penguin if I don't have room to move. Also, with a toddler I have to be ready to move at a moments notice...just sayin.😁🙃
Until Next Time!
